Why do I need to take the workshop, I'm a pro singer?

The workshop is designed to accommodate every level of experience. For pro singers, the coaching will be more collaborative, and a chance for you to rehearse your song. Rob and Joanna will help you work on a custom arrangement of your song, explore singing it in different keys, try out a different feel etc. Together we work to nudge you out of your comfort zone so that you can get the most out of this experience. Rob will then make you a custom backing track to practice with and a chart for the band.
When you get on stage to perform your song the band will already have your chart and know exactly what you need. Rob will deal with communicating tempo, feel, intro, outro etc. All you need to do is get on stage.

What if I want to take multiple workshops? Is there a discount?

You are very welcome to take multiple workshops. We have a selection of packages you can choose from that include second workshops at a greatly reduced price.

Question 3

Why am I being asked to sell tickets to the event? I've already paid for the workshop, shouldn't tickets be free?

The $75 fee for the workshop is very reasonable for all the value we include.

In addition to the time spent coaching the workshop (2 of us), there is another hour or so spent per singer- making the rehearsal track, preparing the chart for the musicians on the performance, designing social media posts, clipping and sending video, and general admin like messaging back and forth, designing the set list etc.

For the event itself, we have 2 musicians and the sound technician to pay- that's not including ourselves (Rob and Joanna). We arrive at the venue at 6:30 and leave around 11:30.

Basically, the workshop fee guarantees that we can pay the 2 other musicians and sound technician for the event at a fair rate, and enough to pay ourselves a lesser amount for the same time. That's only if we have 10 singers registered who have paid full price.

We love what we do and are invested in creating this space for singers and we do want to keep it as accessible financially as possible. We are a small business and relatively new, so we don't expect to be paid for all of our time... yet. However, the ticket sales can help us get closer to that goal.

What level of experience is the workshop for?

Workshops can accommodate singers of all levels. Within the workshop each singer will have a chance to perform their song and receive coaching based on their own level. If you have no experience singing you may want to add a one on one coaching with Joanna where you can learn the fundamentals of singing.

I paid for a private session with Joanna, but there aren't any times that work for me

Joanna can usually accommodate more times than are currently listed on the calendar. Please reach out to discuss possible times.

Add ons to enhance your experience:
2nd song- $25
Private coaching with Joanna- $30 for 30 minutes

Are there discounts available?

Yes, we have a Youth discount for under 25's. Other discounts will vary from month to month, so please message to enquire.

Question 9

Why do I need to pay for a second song?

Accepted Answer

Each song requires Rob to make a backing track for you and a chart for the band. If too many singers want a second song, that will increase the length of the event and require us to pay the band an additional fee.

Question 10

What's covered in the workshop?

Accepted Answer

Topics include; finding the right key for, following the instrumental solo, stylistic phrasing, altering the melody, improv, working with the band etc.
Specifics will depend on your level of knowledge and experience.

I don't want to perform, can I still take the workshop?

Absolutely! Just add a note onto your registration form so we know you don't want us to save you a performance spot.
